Fellow Pastors, I just returned from a working tour of our Southern Area....Portland, Corpus Christi, Kingsville, Harlingen, Brownsville, San Benito, Weslaco, McAllen, and Mission. My co-workers, K. Ray McDowell (ADS) and Matt Price (CPM) joined me...contact me or the STxDO if you need help with the acronyms . Those three days were filled with encouragement, reminders that we have faithful and capable pastors, great human need, comforting the grieving, food and fellowship (of course) and the acute awareness that we face a challenging and uncertain future as we seek to live in God's mission and be a part of building His Kingdom. I imagine that sounds a lot like the context you find yourself in today. In facing all of this, my mind goes to two books I am currently reading: Canoeing the Mountains by Tod Bolsinger Chase the Lion by Mark Batterson Bolsinger's take on facing the mountains, when we thought would find the easy river, is a powerful reminder that we must be ready and willing to adapt as pastors and leaders. Batterson calls me to not only believe that God can help me face the lion, but that I should be so bold in my confidence in Him, that I actually chase the lion. Whatever mountain you face today, whatever lion you need to chase, know this: For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. (2 Timothy 1:7).
